Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide corresponding to the ACTH(4-7) fragment (Met-Glu-His-Phe) extended at the C-terminus with a Pro-Gly-Pro tripeptide, which increases proteolytic stability relative to the native ACTH sequence. In laboratory models it is studied as a melanocortin-related and neurotrophic-signalling-modulating peptide, including reported effects on BDNF/TrkB-associated pathways.
